HOW OFTEN SHOULD
MY PIANO BE TUNED?

Most piano companies say twice per year or when the seasons change. Regular tuning is most important for optimal piano care.  When a piano is not tuned regularly it causes the overall tuning of the piano to lower. This often leads to more prep work for the technician and "pitch raising" is necessary to get the piano to hold tuning.  In the end, lack of regular tuning enhances the risk of damage to piano parts and a more costly trip to get the piano back in good playing shape.

WHAT WILL CAUSE MY
PIANO TO LOSE TUNING?

Climate and humidity can cause a piano to lose tuning the most. You will often hear a more drastic change in tuning when transitioning from fall to winter or spring to summer. Remember, this is an instrument made of mostly wood which expands and contracts with these changes. Other factors are temperature in the home, proximity to vents, and moving the piano.

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED
IF MY PIANO IS OLDER?

Most pianos do hold up well for a very long time. At the same time, much like a high mileage car some pianos may not be worth fixing because the cost of repair may exceed the value of the instrument. The older the piano gets the more parts wear out. There are several factors to consider when thinking of piano service in these cases such as sentimental value, piano type, and brand.
